Airless Packaging Frequently Asked Questions

High-protection airless packaging is ideal for sensitive formulations such as low-preservative, preservative-free, or natural, that are prone to degradation from air exposures. It is also ideal for formulas containing active or medical-grade ingredients that require enhanced stability and protection from oxidation or contamination.

Mono-material airless systems, such as fully polyethylene (PE) systems are compatible with existing PE recycling streams, whereas multi-material packaging may require component separation. Airless packaging can be designed for recyclability depending on material composition and local recycling infrastructures. For all our airless packaging, Aptar Beauty evaluates Designed for Recycling criteria evaluation.

Airless packaging improves product evacuation rates by using a piston or bag-in-bottle inner system that pushes the formula upwards, minimizing the formula left in the container. This technology allows for evacuation rates above 90%, ensuring consumers can use nearly the entire product.

Yes, post-consumer recycled resin can be integrated into many airless packaging systems while maintaining quality performance and compatibility. Our PCR-capable airless ranges from 42% to 100% based on the size and configuration.
