PFS and Autoinjector Drug Delivery: A Platform of Primary Packaging Solutions for Streamlined Delivery

Primary packaging solutions for sensitive biologics must meet stringent quality requirements while at the same time addressing key trends towards, for example, treatment within a homecare setting. Against this backdrop, the use of prefilled syringes (PFS) and auto injectors is growing in the market place.

This presentation introduces Aptar Pharma’s PremiumCoat^®, a platform of solutions for the delivery of sensitive drugs and biologics incorporating vial stoppers, syringe plungers and expert services.

PremiumCoat^® has been optimized for integration in drug filling processes, for drug storage and for administration, to provide developers optimal primary packaging solution that can accelerate time to market. Including 13mm and 20mm vial stoppers, 1ml and 1-3ml plungers and a range of development services to facilitate development, it is available in both RTS (Ready to Sterilize) and RTU (Ready to Use) formats.

The presentation also discusses the key benefits of PremiumCoat^® such as ETFE film-coated bromobutyl formulations and their unique design used in the manufacturing process. Data is also presented illustrating key aspects of the performance of plungers. This includes leachable profiles compared to competition, break loose and gliding force measurements and CCI (Container Closure Integrity) tests at -60°C. The presentation concludes with a discussion of Aptar Pharma’s market-leading needle shield solutions for Pre-filled syringes with data demonstrating performance as well as an overview of the company’s credentials as a partner in the development and commercialization of biologics.
