Sustainability Measures Are the Key to Meeting ESG Commitments

Matthias Birkhoff, Vice President Business Development at Aptar Pharma, and Christophe Marie, Director Product Sustainability at AptarGroup, have penned an article that provides a practical comparison of its Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD) and traditional Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) single use eye drops and their inherent differences from plastics waste and waste formulation perspectives. Based on LCA calculations with Aptar’s Eco-Design tool, savings of CO₂ emissions due to considerable packaging material reduction with the OSD multi-dose versus BFS single-use vials have been evaluated. Furthermore, the Eco-Design tool helps Aptar Pharma to develop or optimize its devices that maximize sustainability and minimize their impact on the environment.
