Case Study – Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser and ESG

With around 70% of the world economy now covered by net zero targets, and recent research suggesting that 80% of consumers want to see less plastic packaging, post-pandemic, there is an urgent need for more sustainable pharmaceutical solutions.

This case study compares the packaging weight and associated Global Warming Potential (GWP) of Aptar Pharma’s Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD), a multi-dose preservative-free eye dropper, with the widely used delivery format of Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) single use vials. By reducing the amount of primary packaging material used and minimizing medication waste the OSD multi-dose preservative-free eyedropper delivers a more sustainable pharmaceutical solution for eyecare, with a lower GWP.

Aptar Pharma is committed to developing sustainable pharmaceutical solutions by, for example, maximizing the use of renewable energies, effective recycling, and innovative product design. The OSD multi-dose preservative-free eye dropper exemplifies the progress already made.
