Connected Medicine: Insights from Payers and Other Stakeholders

Connected medicine is widely recognized as having considerable potential to improve patient outcomes while at the same time reducing healthcare costs. This article summarizes real-life experience, recent research and discussions with payers/stakeholders across the digital healthcare ecosystem, assessing the current state of play and barriers to progress. Insights were gathered from senior representatives of healthcare plans, pharmacy benefit managers, life science manufacturers and integrated delivery networks and four keys were identified with respect to realizing the potential of connected medicine: connectivity and patient engagement; adherence; coverage; and cost and adoption challenges. The real-life experience of Propeller Health is also discussed. This company works collaboratively with Aptar Pharma and has already deployed more than 60 connected medicine programs.
